Tucked
away in the far northwest corner of the Republic, Counties Sligo
and Donegal remain among Ireland's best-kept secrets.
Yet they hold some of the most spectacular scenery in Europe,
and quite possibly the friendliest people in all of Ireland.
Donegal is a place apart from the rest of the Republic. In some
ways closer to Scotland than to Dublin, it is home to some of
our most dramatic scenery, a particular musical tradition and
a distinctive accent and friendly welcome.
Mountain-biking first began in the USA in the early 1980s and
has spread all over the world. Mountain Bikes account for almost
90% of all bicycle sales in Ireland at present, though less than
10% of these bikes ever get to the mountains.
Here is some useful information for anybody who is interested
in taking up mountainbiking.
Riding off-road can be very demanding, but it can also open up
a whole new world of fun.
Unfortunatlely there are fewer places to go mountainbiking in
this country due to the closure of trails caused by destructive
and careless bikers. Please be considerate and follow the Mountain
Code.
