Day
1 (Saturday):
On arrival in Ireland guests are met by a Five Counties
Holidays representative and driven to Ardmourne House where they
are welcomed by their hosts, Helena and Joe McElhill. This quiet
family residence is located 6m (10 km) west of Castlederg in Co.
Tyrone. It is surrounded by green rolling countryside and is close
to some of the largest forests in Ireland. Dinner can be either
in Ardmourne House or in a local restaurant. Overnight: Ardmourne
House
Day
2 (Sunday):
After the full Irish Breakfast guests will enjoy a day's sightseeing
in Co. Donegal. The will get a first-hand impression of the
scenic beauty of the mountains and valleys of this remote county.
Highlight of the day is the 2-hour excursion by Waterbus in
Donegal Bay which offers unusual views of the unique coastline
of Co. Donegal. Guests have been provided with a tasty packed
lunch which generally includes sandwiches, fruit and a soft drink.
Extra refreshments are available on board the Waterbus.After this
exciting day the evening meal can either be enjoyed in Ardmourne
House or in a local restaurant. Overnight: Ardmourne House
Day
3 (Monday):
Having enjoyed Helena's tasty breakfast guests are transferred
to the small town of Castlederg. 10 am - 1 pm: "Improve your
English" conversation course in the Mourne Derg Business
Centre. This course is not designed as a language course in
the true sense of the word but is aimed at guests with basic English
which they may have learnt at school quite some time ago and which
they might want to improve during their holidays. Participants
and experienced teachers are discussing subjects of general interest
and everybody will be able to contribute. At the end of the week
participants generally find that they have extended their English
vocabulary and are able express themselves more fluently. A light
lunch awaits the participants at the end of the conversation course.
2 - 7 pm: After spending the morning in a classroom environment
some activities will most probably appreciated by everybody: the
extensive forestland in the vicinity of Ardmourne House is ideal
for a few hours on horseback. Even guests who seldom or never
go horse riding will enjoy these few hours on a horse and advanced
riders may try the more demanding routes. Dinner is available
either at Ardmourne House or in a local restaurant. 8 - 9 pm:
These four hours of music tuition during the week are designed
for everybody who likes to listen to traditional Irish music and
who would like to learn the basic skills to be able to play some
Irish airs even if he doesn't play any instruments. After dinner
guests are transferred to the Killeter Heritage Centre
not far from Ardmourne House where experienced tutors will introduce
them to traditional Irish music. Three instruments are available
to interested guests: tin whistle, fiddle and piano. At the end
of the week participants should be able to play some easy traditional
Irish music. Overnight: Ardmourne House
Day
4 (Tuesday):
After an enjoyable and hearty Irish breakfast guests drive to
Castlederg again for their English conversation course.
10 am - 1 pm: "Improve your English" conversation course in the
Mourne Derg Business Centre. This is followed by a light snack
for lunch. 2 - 5 pm: This afternoon guests will get to know the
cultural places and historic sites in the area of which
there are quite a few. The evening meal may again either be enjoyed
in Ardmourne House or in one of the local restaurants. 8 - 9 pm:
Guests are meeting at the Killeter Heritage Centre again
to attend their second music lesson. Some slight progress may
even be noticeable! Overnight: Ardmourne House
Day
5 (Wednesday):
After a peaceful night in the quiet McElhill family residence
the Irish breakfast is a good start to the day. In a short time
guests are back in Castlederg again. 10 am - 1 pm: "Improve
your English" conversation course in the Mourne Derg Business
Centre. After a light lunch at the end of the course the afternoon
will be an active one again. 2 - 5 pm: Today guests can choose
between two activities - horse riding and cycling with
modern 15-speed bikes. Friends or partners who can't decide which
one to choose but who would still like to spend the afternoon
together needn't worry - the routes around Ardmourne House have
been designed for use by riders as well as cyclists and walkers.
Dinner again may be booked either in Ardmourne House or in one
of the local restaurants. 8 - 9 pm: Back to the Killeter Heritage
Centre for yet another enjoyable hour of music tuition.
Overnight: Ardmourne House
Day 6 (Thursday): Guests are driven to Castlederg after having
enjoyed their healthy Irish breakfast. 10 am - 1 pm: "Improve
your English" conversation course in the Mourne Derg Business
Centre, followed by a light lunch. 2 - 5 pm: Cycling and walking
in beautiful countryside is healthy, relaxing and enjoyable and
guests are looking forward to the next few hours. The cycling
and walking routes around Ardmourne House are suitable for everybody
- easy and flat for those who would just like to have a relaxing
walk or an easy cycle ride and more mountainuous areas for experienced
walkers and cyclists who are used to more demanding routes. The
active afternoon comes to an end and guests will have to decide
again: dinner in Ardmourne House or in a local restaurant? 8 -
9 pm: For the last time everybody assembles in the Killeter Heritage
Centre for their final music lesson and the grand finale - a traditional
Irish air played to perfection! Overnight: Ardmourne House.
Day 7 (Friday):
The leisurely breakfast may go on a bit longer today since there
is no "school" today! Everybody may enjoy the day and do what
they want: walking, cycling, horse riding, sightseeing, shopping,
practise music or just relax and let the world go by. Whatever
guests choose to do - they are all provided with one of Helena's
imaginative lunch boxes. At an agreed time in the evening guests,
language and music teachers as well as local musicians meet
in Ardmourne House for an informal dinner followed by a music
session. Guests may want to prove that they mastered the basic
skills of Irish music, they may want to play together with the
local musicians or may prefer just to listen to the experts. The
evening will be an enjoyable end of an enjoyable week! Overnight:
Ardmourne House.
Day 8 (Saturday): After breakfast transfer to the airport for
departure.
